100 clay objects

The prompt was to create a 100 clay objects.
I was inspired by the rosetta stone, and the idea of modern hieroglyphics.
My piece connects the medium (clay) and emojis, by illustrating how they—while being so modern—remain simple in their concept, as an abstract form of communication. While we see a great amount of progress in language, we still find ourselves using universal graphics to share meaning.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The idea of emojis as a sort of modern hieroglyphic felt right, in that it utilized the clay as a tool to communicate old and new. Clay, as a universal medium, is plastic in both a literal and temporal sense—it adapts. Language felt similar in that way, emphasizing the materiality. My piece is meant to present the progression of language, and its intersection with technology and culture. Emojis not only act as a method of communication, but hold strong cultural prevalence, with more nuance than we often credit them for.
